Melody Asherman, The Woman Behind Everrything RRouge

Melody Asherman’s path to being a designer was not an easy one. In fact, all the road blocks she encountered throughout her journey were only preparing her for the greatness she was destined to obtained. A native of Newark , New Jersey of Liberian descent, Melody’s love for passion peaked when she first designed her prom and graduation dresses in high school. Her willingness to go against the odds is a demonstration of  this well-known quote “If Plan A doesn’t  work, there are 25 more Letters in the alphabet.”Find  out more below about the Designer behind Everrything RRouge.

 It's been about 2 years since I've been operating outside of the corporate realm. Being a young, single mother from Newark, NJ it's definitely been a challenge to connect with people in my community who are facing the same struggles.  In the beginning , living so close to NYC, I felt like a lot of other creatives from jersey feel - like I had to establish myself in New York for some kind of stamp of approval. I got tired of that , quick. There's so many amazing talented creatives from Jersey , doing things, but where were they? Where can I find them? Especially women. Why aren't we visible? Why aren't we connected?

Melody Asherman Interview: Come Thru African Fashion

God will always place people in front of you that he wants you to know, I’m a firm believer this because it continues to take place in my life. This is exactly what happened when I met Butterfly Melody Asherman of Everrything RRouge. I was leaving the famous Madame Tussauds in DC with my #BlessedFriend Jessica, when we stepped outside and noticed the best image of beauty across the street. Imagine this, 4 beautiful African American women, all dressed in African printed dresses, designed differently but definitely precise to the model’s frame. A busy photographer directed the women as a small team of Butterflies worked on the sidelines to ensure every frame was its best. Something was going on across the street and the pull to walk over and introduce ourselves to the team and the designer Butterfly Melody Asherman was just the beginning.
